THE CHURCH
The church was consecrated on October 2nd 1848. It is built of Yorkshire sand stone and was erected at the sole expense of John Hollings. The architects Healey and Mallinson used a decorated Early English style. There is an octagonal broach spire above the crossing rising from a square tower. It stands in a walled area which was the graveyard but is now the parish garden.
Twice enlarged at earlier periods the building has been twice reordered in modern times leaving us with the original nave as the body of the worship area and chancel as the Lady Chapel. The north and south aisles are sectioned off to form adaptable hall accommodation. The baptistry and narthex are at the West end of the church. We still have the original pipe organ very much in use.
We would describe our churchmanship as central/evangelical.
Christians of all backgrounds live in the area and worship together in the Parish Church. Activities and worship are shared with "The Church of the God of Prophecy" (Pentecostal), Westgate Baptists and the Asian Christian Fellowship.
The parish is fully committed to the work of the Girlington, Heaton, and Manningham Council of Churches sharing in their activities and acts of witness.
CHURCH ORGANISATIONS
A luncheon club uses one part of the church hall every Tuesday. Some of those attending the Social Club for the mentally handicapped, meeting in another part of the building , on Tuesday afternoons come for lunch as well.
Bradford & Ilkley College use the halls for English Classes. During the vacations the halls are fully used for holiday clubs by the Department of Social Security for staff children.
St Paul's Church was linked with St Mary Magdalene's Church to form the parish of Manningham. St Mary Magdalene's church building has recently closed.
The Parish of Manningham is linked with the Parish of St Thomas' in Christiansburg, South West Virginia who are pleased to share their web-resources with us.
